The Volunteer in Palestine Program 2025/2026

The Volunteer in Palestine Program 2025/2026 presents a unique opportunity for individuals to engage in a transformative initiative lasting from 1 to 12 weeks. It’s an ideal chance for those who are enthusiastic about discovering Palestine, delving into its culture, fostering connections with Palestinians, residing within a host family, and, significantly, making a profoundly positive impact on the Palestinian community.

Distinguished among our array of programs, the Volunteer in Palestine program offers participants the privilege of interacting with school students, university students, and community members. Moreover, it facilitates the learning and practice of Arabic, enabling participants to immerse themselves in the richness of Arabic culture.

The Volunteer in Palestine program is designed to fully immerse international participants in the local community. You’ll take part in educational, social, and cultural activities that offer a deep understanding of Palestinian life. As a volunteer, you can choose to learn Modern Standard Arabic, the Palestinian dialect, or both. All learning materials and curricula are provided to support your Arabic learning throughout the program.

Where will the Volunteer program be held?

The Volunteer in Palestine program takes place in the historic city of Hebron, located in the southern West Bank. Known as Al-Khalil in Arabic, Hebron is just 30 km (19 miles) south of Jerusalem. The city is home to around 300,000 residents, with an additional 500,000 living in nearby villages. Volunteering in this vibrant and culturally rich city offers a true experience of daily life in Palestine.

The West Bank is a landlocked territory in the Middle East, located west of the Jordan River. It is a part of the historical region of Palestine and is currently recognized internationally as a disputed area under Israeli occupation, though it is home to a predominantly Palestinian population. The region holds cultural, religious, and historical significance and has been central to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

What is the difference between the West Bank and Gaza?

The West Bank and Gaza are two distinct territories in Palestine. The West Bank is a larger, landlocked area with a mix of cities, towns, and rural villages, while Gaza is a smaller, densely populated coastal strip along the Mediterranean Sea.

Politically, the West Bank is primarily governed by the Palestinian Authority, whereas Gaza is controlled by Hamas. Both regions face significant challenges due to the ongoing conflict but differ in geography, administration, and living conditions.

Navigation Guide : Navigate with Ease

When should you arrive to begin your program?

We recommend arriving in Palestine one day before your selected start date to settle in and prepare for your Volunteer in Palestine experience. You are also welcome to stay an extra day after the program ends to ensure a smooth and relaxed departure.

What visa do you need to volunteer in Palestine?

To volunteer in Palestine, obtaining an Israeli tourist visa that allows a stay of up to 3 months is necessary. Acquiring a volunteer visa directly in Palestine can be challenging.

Visa Requirements for Palestine

If you plan to volunteer in Palestine and you’re from a country with an exemption agreement with Israel, you can acquire a tourist visa upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport (Tel Aviv) or the Allenby-King Hussein Bridge border crossing. Citizens from countries like the United States and European nations typically receive a three-month visa upon arrival, valid for 90 days.

However, if your home country does not have an exemption agreement with Israel, it is essential to obtain a visa from the Israeli embassy or consulate in your home country before your visit. It’s worth noting that Israel now issues visas on a separate card containing a barcode to avoid passport stamps, as some Arab countries do not accept Israeli passport stamps. Ensure to verify whether your native country participates in a visa exemption agreement.

What if your passport isn’t suitable for a tourist visa?

Regrettably, individuals from countries such as Pakistan and India must obtain a visa from the Israeli embassy in their respective countries if they wish to volunteer in Palestine. This process can be particularly challenging as Israel maintains control over all entry points. Consequently, securing a visa becomes a prerequisite even before initiating the volunteer application.

Is the West Bank safe for volunteering?

Yes, the West Bank is relatively safe for those who wish to volunteer in Palestine. Most incidents or conflicts occur in areas far from the main city centers where volunteering programs are typically held. Cities like Hebron, Bethlehem, and Ramallah, where most volunteer in Palestine programs take place, generally maintain a stable and secure environment for participants.

Volunteers often find the local community welcoming and supportive, which adds to the overall feeling of security. Nevertheless, we encourage participants to stay updated on local news and follow any guidance provided by their hosts to ensure their safety.

Is prior experience a requirement for volunteering in Palestine?

Volunteering in Palestine does not require prior experience. Our volunteer in Palestine programs are inclusive and welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds, regardless of previous experience. We focus on creating a supportive environment where everyone can contribute, learn, and make a meaningful impact, irrespective of their prior expertise.

What matters most to us is your enthusiasm and dedication. Our team is committed to guiding and supporting you throughout your volunteer journey in Palestine.
