In my short time living here, I have been consistently amazed by the warmth, generosity, and authenticity of the Palestinian people. The West Bank, in particular, has been a hub of kindness and acceptance that has left a lasting impression on me.

For any foreigner, known as an ajnabi, visiting or residing in the West Bank, the first word you’ll hear is “Welcome!” Palestinians are genuinely interested in learning about different cultures, eager to engage in conversations, and ensure your comfort and safety. This welcoming attitude is not intrusive; a simple “welcome to Palestine” from passersby is common, accompanied by a smile and a nod. Younger Palestinians may attempt to converse in English briefly, asking about your background before offering assistance. The willingness of Palestinians to help and make visitors feel at home is truly remarkable.
Generosity Beyond Measure
One of the ways Palestinians express their hospitality is through generous gestures of offering food, drinks, and services for free. Daily encounters with locals offering falafel sandwiches, fruit smoothies, Arabic coffee, and more, all accompanied by a refusal to accept payment, showcase the extent of Palestinian generosity. These acts of kindness are often followed by a simple “Welcome to Palestine,” emphasizing the genuine nature of their hospitality.
