Hebron or as its called in Arabic Al-Khalil is a Palestinian city which located in the southern part of the West Bank. It is 30 km (19 mile) faraway from Jerusalem and it is the second biggest city after Gaza. In Hebron, there is around 300,000 Palestinians who live in the city and around 500,000 who live in the villages. In Hebron there is around between 500 and 850 Jewish settlers who live on the Palestinian territories illegally.
Hebron is a big city with an area of 997 square km and has been labeled this name refereeing to the prophet Abraham. The city is divided into two sectors; H1 which pose 80% of the whole city controlled by the Palestinian Authority and H2 which 20% of the city is under the administration of Israel.
The city is considered to be holy site for Christians, Muslims and Jewish. Hebron is the economic city for Palestinians where it contributes in a third of the area’s gross domestic products. The city is known for its grapes, figs, limestone, pottery workshops and glassblowing factories.
The city contains around 100 villages and towns such as Dura, Yata, Samoua, Dahriya and Halhoul. In addition, there are two refugees camps; Alfawar in the south and Al Aroub in the north.
