Meet Haneen from Canada: Embark on a Volunteering Journey in Palestine/West Bank

Exploring Palestine: A Unique Experience

My name is Haneen Eldalk, a 27-year-old woman currently living in Canada with Palestinian roots. My recent journey to Palestine was driven by a desire to immerse myself in the natural beauty of the country, understand its daily life, connect with its palestine/” title=”The Olive Harvest in the West Bank, Palestine”>people, and contribute by teaching English.

During my two-week stay, I had the privilege of teaching English to local Palestinians and exploring various parts of my homeland. Visiting the historic Ibrahimi mosque and witnessing the division wall separating it was a profound experience. Additionally, interacting with residents in refugee camps, hearing their stories of exile since 1948, was truly enlightening. A visit to the Herbawi Keffiyeh factory, the last of its kind in Palestine, provided insight into the significance of the traditional Palestinian Keffiyeh as a symbol of identity.

My cultural background prepared me for the customs and traditions of Palestine, yet experiencing them firsthand among the locals added a new dimension. Sharing a meal on the ground in a refugee camp, eating with our hands, highlighted the warmth and hospitality of the community.

Contrary to its portrayal in the media as a conflict zone, Palestine offers a peaceful and welcoming environment. The presence of watch towers near the segregation wall may raise safety concerns, but overall, the country is safe for visitors. I felt secure throughout my journey, surrounded by the kindness and generosity of the Palestinian people.

In conclusion, I urge anyone considering a trip to Palestine to seize the opportunity. The Palestinian population is known for their hospitality and willingness to assist visitors. Language barriers are minimal, as English is widely spoken. Embrace the unique experience that Palestine has to offer and discover the beauty and warmth of its people.
