Understanding Palestinian Refugees

When we think of Palestinian refugees, we often picture those living outside Palestine due to historical events like those⁢ of 1948. ⁢However, it’s crucial to recognize that there‌ are also refugee communities within the West Bank and Gaza. In the West ⁢Bank, approximately 22⁤ camps house around 176,000 refugees, ⁣while Gaza⁣ has 12 camps accommodating about 478,000 refugees. These communities play a significant‍ role ⁤in shaping the Palestinian refugee experience, highlighting the complexities and challenges faced by Palestinians across different contexts.

Learning Arabic Language Through Volunteering

As part of our ⁢program, volunteers have access to two Arabic classes per week lasting 1.5 hours each session for a total of 3 hours of immersive language ‍instruction. This comprehensive learning opportunity⁣ not only enhances Arabic proficiency but also deepens understanding ‌of Arab culture and communication nuances within it.

Enhancing ⁢English Skills Through Conversations

In our program, we prioritize helping volunteers achieve fluency in English through engaging conversations with students from various backgrounds. We believe that improving conversational skills can open up new opportunities and foster connections with people from diverse locations.

Living with Local ‌Host Families

Staying with a Palestinian host family⁢ offers an immersive experience that goes beyond language acquisition—it provides profound insights into their culture and daily life. By living among locals, volunteers gain firsthand exposure to traditions, values, and hospitality while forging meaningful connections and deepening appreciation for Palestinian life.
