Transportation Options from Ben Gurion Airport to Hebron:
Many volunteers planning to travel to Hebron often feel overwhelmed by the prospect of navigating transportation from Ben Gurion Airport in Israel to the city, as well as within Hebron itself. However, the process is much simpler than it may initially appear.
Traveling from Ben Gurion Airport to Hebron:
When traveling from Ben Gurion Airport to Hebron, there are two main options to consider. The most convenient but pricier option is to take a private taxi directly to Hebron. If you choose this option, you will need to inform the Palestinian Center in advance so they can arrange the taxi for you. Upon arrival at the airport, you will communicate with the driver via Whatsapp to coordinate your pickup.
It is important to note that some volunteers may experience delays at Israeli Security checkpoints, which can range from a few minutes to a couple of hours. If possible, notify your driver or the Palestinian Center if you are facing any delays. Additionally, make sure to look for your private taxi in the second set of lanes outside the airport, as it will not be waiting in the general taxi line. Avoid getting into yellow taxis, as they may overcharge you and not take you to the West Bank. The journey from Ben Gurion Airport to Hebron via private taxi typically takes around one and a half hours and costs approximately $140.
Alternatively, if you prefer a more budget-friendly option, you can take a ”service” (shared taxi) from the airport to Jerusalem, and then another service from Jerusalem to Hebron. Services are easily recognizable as yellow vans outside the airport. These shared taxis will only depart once all seats are filled, so be prepared for potential wait times. The trip via service is significantly cheaper but may take 3-4 hours to reach Hebron.
If your flight arrives later in the day, it is advisable to arrange a private taxi to avoid being stranded, as services do not operate late into the night. Alternatively, you can opt to take a service to Jerusalem and stay overnight in a hostel or hotel before continuing your journey to Hebron the next day.
Some volunteers prefer the convenience of a direct private taxi to Hebron, especially after a long and tiring journey to Ben Gurion Airport. Others enjoy the adventure and challenge of taking the shared taxi route. Ultimately, the choice between a private taxi and a service depends on your preferences. Regardless of the option you choose, you will safely arrive at the Palestinian Center in Hebron, where we look forward to welcoming you!
